Is your bat legal? Check the stamp, then check the list.

A bat can carry the right stamp and still be illegal — one length decertified, one variant barred, one tournament running stricter rules. This tracker mirrors the sanctioning bodies' own lists so you can check a bat in under a minute.

The regimes that decide most bats

NCAA / NFHS via WSU Sports Science LabBBCOR .50 stampHigh school and college baseball. One stamp, one list (WSU Lab). From Jan 1, 2029 the NCAA moves to the new USA BBCOR mark; BBCOR-stamped bats stay legal for NCAA through 2028. NFHS takes USABat -4/-5/-6 bats alongside BBCOR from the 2028 season.USA BBCOR transition 2027-2029

USA Baseball (USABat)USABat stampLittle League, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie, AABC, NABF, Dizzy Dean. If the league says USABat, only bats on the USABat.com approved list are legal.Retail compliance testing can decertify a single size (Ghost X 30/20)
USSSA Fastpitch / USA Softball / NCAAUSSSA FP 1.20 BPF; USA Softball (ASA 2000/2004/2013/2020) marks; NCAA approved listMost top fastpitch bats carry several stamps. NCAA keeps its own approved list (552 bats at Sep 2, 2026). USA Softball also maintains Non-Approved lists of bats that were certified, then failed field audits.Variant-level splits (Ghost Gold vs Blue in Babe Ruth Softball)
USA Softball / USSSA SlowpitchUSA Softball (ASA 2000/2004/2013/2020) marks; USSSA 240-compression NTS stampAdult slowpitch runs on two different stamps that do NOT substitute for each other: a USA Softball bat is not automatically USSSA-legal and vice versa. Dual-stamped models exist — check for both marks on the barrel itself. Senior play (SSUSA, 1.21 BPF) is a third, separate list.Stamp confusion between USA and USSSA versions of the same model name (e.g. KP23) — the model page names the version

Decertification & legality alerts

2017 — DeMarini CF Zen (2017, USSSA -8 and -10, incl. Custom / Zero Dark variants): Decertified (USSSA). Withdrawn from USSSA play — the most famous youth-bat decertification of the modern era.
2012 — Marucci Cat 5² (Cat5 MCB2) 33/30: Decertified (NCAA / NFHS (WSU Lab) + USSSA). BBCOR decertified (WSU notices: 33in eff. Feb 17, 2012; 34in eff. Jun 6, 2012); also on USSSA's non-compliant list.
2020 — Louisville Slugger Meta 33in BBCOR (BBMTB3-20 et al.): Decertified — 33in only (NCAA / NFHS (WSU Lab)). Removed from NCAA/NFHS play after additional testing, effective Feb 21, 2020. USSSA followed. Other lengths stayed legal.
2018 — Easton Ghost X 30in/20oz (YBB18GX10 / LL18GHX): Decertified — one size only (USA Baseball). Decertified in 2018 after WSU compliance testing of retail bats. All other lengths stayed legal — the canonical one-length-only decert.
2022 — Stinger Missile II 33in (MISL2233): Decertified — 33in (NCAA / NFHS (WSU Lab)). BBCOR decertified effective Aug 10, 2022.
2012 — Reebok Vector TLS 33in / 32in: Decertified (NCAA / NFHS (WSU Lab)). BBCOR decertified in 2012 (33in Mar 22; 32in NFHS Aug 14) — the early-BBCOR era warning shot.
2023 — Suncoast slowpitch models (9 model codes): Non-compliant (USSSA). Declared non-compliant 'effective immediately' on USSSA's softball list dated May 25, 2023 (9 model codes listed).
Legacy — Miken Ultra (original gray): Not approved (USA Softball + SSUSA). On USA Softball's Non-Approved list and explicitly excluded by SSUSA — the senior/ASA-era legend.
Legacy — Louisville Slugger OneX (fastpitch, full line): Recalled (League notices). Full-line recall — surfaced in league non-compliant notices.
Legacy — Easton Ghost (Gold) — Babe Ruth Softball: Variant-specific bar (Babe Ruth Softball). The Gold Ghost was barred in Babe Ruth Softball while the (Blue) Ghost remained legal: a model-variant legality split, the hardest kind for parents to track.
2024 — Easton Hype Fire -5 (all model years): Suspended, then reinstated with a 12U exception (Perfect Game (event level)). Suspended from Perfect Game events Apr 8, 2024 despite remaining USSSA-legal; reinstated Aug 15, 2024 — except 12U, where PG allows no -5 bats of any brand. Proof a tracker must watch event organizers, not just cert bodies.

Coming: the 2026–2029 stamp change

USSSA 14U already moved to BBCOR (Jan 1, 2026). USA Baseball takes over the BBCOR standard with a new USA BBCOR mark — new-marked bats reach stores around Jul 2027; high schools add USABat −4/−5/−6 bats from the 2028 season; the NCAA requires USA BBCOR from Jan 1, 2029 (BBCOR-stamped bats stay NCAA-legal through 2028). Same WSU lab, same .50 ceiling — three seasons of confusing shelves. Every model page here will carry both marks as the change lands.
